Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to rent a car myself?

On the self-drive trips in Greece a rental car is included. As the roads are relatively narrow in Greece, the rental cars are all small family cars with an automatic transmission. Should you prefer a manual gearbox, then please let us know.

For the self-drive trips in Spain and Italy you have to rent a car yourself. Bear in mind that the roads in some parts of Italy and Spain are also rather small.

Do I need an International Driver’s License?

In Spain, Greece and Italy none EU-members need an International Driving Permit together with their national driver’s license. For Canada you can visit http://www.caa.ca/travel/travel-permits-e.cfm and for the U.S. http://www.thenac.com/idp_faqs.htm. More information about an International Driving Permit in other European countries can be found on our Country Info pages.

Is driving in Europe different from North America?

Most people have no trouble driving in Europe. The cars as well as the roads are smaller than in Canada or the U.S. In and around cities you can expect heavy traffic and it can be hard to find a parking spot. So a map or a GPS system might be very welcome. Some countries have more curvy roads, because of the mountains. Only in the U.K. they drive on the left side of the road.
